• IJC releases report on public review of the Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement -- OTTAWA, Canada, April 20, 2006 -- Today the International Joint Commission (IJC) released a report, "Synthesis of Public Comment on the Forthcoming Review by the Federal Governments of Canada and the United States of the Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement." • Alberta communities to benefit from over $232 million in infrastructure investment -- MEDICINE HAT, AB, April 19, 2006 -- Urban and rural municipalities in Alberta will see an improvement and increase in their public infrastructure as a result of a $176 million [US$154.8 million] investment by the Governments of Canada and Alberta. The federal and provincial governments will each contribute $88 million [US$77.4 million] to the Canada-Alberta Municipal Rural Infrastructure Fund (CAMRIF) -- a joint initiative that will help contribute to a better quality of life for the people of Alberta by enabling communities to improve local roads, drinking water systems and other municipal infrastructure. With matching municipal contributions, the fund is expected to reach a total value of $264 million [US$232.2 million]. • American States Water releases ratemaking decision from water rights lease -- SAN DIMAS, CA, April 19, 2006 -- American States Water Co. announces the final decision by the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) on April 13 to approve the permanent lease of 5,000 acre feet of water rights to the city of Folsom by AWR's primary subsidiary, Golden State Water Company (GSWC). The CPUC also ordered that the revenues resulting from the lease shall be tracked in an interest-bearing memorandum account and invested in water utility infrastructure or plant development in the Arden and Rancho Cordova service areas in Sacramento County.
