GE Energy to provide SCADA distribution management system to KeySpan

TAMPA, FL, Feb. 7, 2006 -- GE Energy has signed a contract with KeySpan Corp. of Long Island, NY, for installation of an ENMAC supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system on the Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) distribution system. KeySpan has a contract with LIPA to operate its transmission and distribution system.

The announcement was made at the DistribuTECH exhibition and conference being held in Tampa, FL, Feb. 7-9, by PennWell -- this website's parent company (GE Energy Booth #703).

ENMAC is a fully-integrated distribution management solution that provides state-of-the art information tools to utility control room staff and management, enabling them to efficiently and effectively manage the real-time operation of their distribution networks. This is GE's first ENMAC application in North America, building upon many successful years as a leading distribution management system in the United Kingdom, with a customer base that extends to mainland Europe, Africa and Australia.

LIPA will use ENMAC as a central master system to combine its four district SCADA systems into one. The project will use ENMAC's standard interface to the OSIsoft™ PI system to provide a real-time data feed into the data historian.

By integrating advanced SCADA and network management applications, ENMAC gives users the ability to substantially improve operational efficiency, providing the potential to consolidate existing control centers or enabling dispersed control facilities to share data and leverage a common support infrastructure. Through its integrated outage management and

SCADA software and ability to link to other corporate systems such as customer information systems, call centers or GIS (like Smallworld Core Spatial Technology*), ENMAC can provide an enterprise-wide solution for operational staff and asset management.

"Our ENMAC solution is a proven success in the U.K. and we think it will be a great application for the North American market," stated Dan Heintzelman, president of GE Energy's services business. "The new ENMAC system will help LIPA meet the needs of its customers, providing tools to help manage the T&D system more effectively."

LIPA, a non-profit electric utility, owns the retail electric system on Long Island, N.Y. and provides electric service to over 1.1 million customers in Nassau and Suffolk counties, as well as the Rockaway Peninsula in Queens. A member of the Standard & Poor's 500 Index, KeySpan Corporation is the fifth largest distributor of natural gas in the United States and the largest in the Northeast, operating regulated gas utilities in N.Y., Mass. and N.H. that serve 2.6 million customers. KeySpan is also the largest electric generator in New York state, with approximately 6,600 megawatts of generating capacity.
