LEEDS, England, March 25, 2010 -- UK utility Yorkshire Water has today awarded its largest contract to date as part of a £1.35 billion infrastructure improvement contract over the next five years.

The company has appointed seven partners - Mott MacDonald Bentley, BarhaleWSP, Earth Tech Morrison (ETM), Morgan Est Grontmij, Byzac/Entec, Balfour Beatty and Morrison Utility Services - which will be tasked with infrastructure improvements to drinking water and wastewater works.

As part of the contract, the appointed partners will join Yorkshire Water employees to form a 500 member team which will be based in the firm's city centre offices in Leeds.

Charlie Haysom, head of Yorkshire Water's asset delivery department, said: "We're delighted to welcome our partners to the team and look forward to working with them to deliver the challenging programme of investment we have planned over the next five years.

ETM, a joint venture between AECOM Design Build and Morrison Construction secured £150 million of the contract, with £100 million involving capital works on sewerage and water treatment works and £50 million covering work on pumping station facilities.

As a result of the awards, ETM will be undertaking 50% more work per year for Yorkshire Water in AMP5 than in AMP4.

Jim Kirkwood, director of operations at AECOM Design Build, said: "Being awarded these two contract streams builds upon the excellent relationships that ETM have enjoyed with Yorkshire Water under AMP4 and is testament to the fully integrated approach we have developed with this key customer."
