CARDIFF, Wales, UK, March 16, 2010 -- European technical services provider Imtech has secured a contract with Welsh Water to maintain and upgrade all of the water and wastewater assets in Wales over the next five years.
The €100 million contract will include sub-programmes of work for process engineering and major improvements at sewage treatment works including Five Fords, Cardiff, Afan and Nash.
Imtech has been working with Welsh Water since 2000 and this will be the third successive AMP period where Imtech will deliver services to the utility.
Energy efficiency measures will be introduced, the firm said, to help drive continuous improvements in asset performance, carbon reduction and Health, Safety and Environment management.
René van der Bruggen, CEO of Imtech, said: "The new orders for the next phase of the Welsh Water Asset Management Plan as well as the technology upgrade of the Crossness and Beckton Sewage Treatment Works in London are firm foundations for continuity in the coming years in the UK. These assignments are focussing not only on the water and environmental quality, but with the introduction of the Carbon Reduction Commitment 2010 there is the added challenge for long-term sustainable solutions through reducing carbon emissions and energy use."
