American Water donates more than $41K for Haiti relief

VOORHEES, NJ, March 25, 2010 -- American Water Works Company Inc., the largest investor-owned U.S. water and wastewater utility company, announced today that the company and its employees have made a contribution totaling more than $41,000 to the American Red Cross for its Haiti Earthquake Relief efforts.

American Water sponsored a nationwide employee campaign to help the victims of January's devastating earthquake in Haiti through donations to the American Red Cross for relief and recovery efforts. Employees in locations throughout American Water's 35 states raised more than $31,000, and the company matched these efforts with a donation of an additional $10,000.

"Our employees are passionate about giving back, especially when the cause involves providing safe drinking water to people in need, as is the case with the victims of the Haiti earthquake," said Laura Monica, Senior Vice President of Corporate Communications and External Affairs. "American Water is committed to delivering high-quality water to the communities we serve, and we are proud to be able to contribute to the Red Cross' efforts of providing drinking water and other necessities of life to the communities affected by this disaster."
