CHICAGO, IL, March 17, 2010 -- Freshwater Technologies Inc. is pleased to announce that it is expanding its ultra violet drinking water applications to 6 Latin American countries where it has already established local partnerships for its FW water activation products. Viqua, which produces the "Sterilight" brand of Ultra Violet drinking water disinfection systems, has become a world leader in the design and manufacture of innovative disinfection systems for use in residential and small commercial applications. With several thousand installations worldwide, Viqua's Sterilight brand offers simple, safe and effective disinfection of water-borne bacteria, viruses and protozoa pathogens often found in many Latin American water supplies. The World Water Council reports that in Latin America, 77 million people lack access to safe water and Freshwater will concentrate on urban centres where we currently have local partners.
Unlike chlorine which often creates harmful by-products, Sterilight creates no residual by-products as no hazardous chemicals are used. Freshwater, through its distributors, has been able to identify certain areas, both residential and commercial, that are ideally suited to the affordability of the Viqua UV product line. These products allow individual homeowners and small commercial installations to take direct control of their own drinking water safety needs. Viqua also offers a broad range of advanced water products such as water softeners, media filters and filter housings and a broad range of filter cartridges, parts and accessories.
Freshwater will also be investigating locally based distributors and agents who will focus specifically on the untapped drinking market opportunities in countries where it currently is conducting business.
