MUNTINLUPA, Philippines, Aug. 30, 2010 -- West Zone concessionaire Maynilad has increased the water production capacity of its state-of-the-art water treatment plant in Putatan, Muntinlupa, from 25 million liters per day (MLD) to 50MLD.

The additional capacity has enabled Maynilad to serve around 9,400 households more in Brgy. Putatan, Ayala Alabang, Brgy. Poblacion, and Brgy. Tunasan in Muntinlupa. The facility was initially able to produce 25MLD of potable water that benefitted about 4,600 households. With the increase in capacity, Maynilad now supplies clean, reliable, and affordable water to some 14,000 households in Muntinlupa.

The West Zone concessionaire's Putatan Plant is the first water treatment facility that taps into Laguna Lake as an alternative water source to the Angat Dam in Bulacan.

The state-of-the-art facility uses a three-stage process to turn the water of Laguna Lake into water that passes the Philippine National Standards for Drinking Water (PNSDW). These stages include Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF), Microfiltration and Reverse Osmosis. Chlorine is also added to disinfect the water and ensure that it is fit for human consumption.

Before the year ends, the Putatan Treatment Plant is expected to produce 100MLD to serve communities in Muntinlupa, Las Piñas and portions of Cavite. The facility is part of Maynilad's plan to develop alternative sources of water to ensure long-term water security for its customers.

Maynilad Water Services Inc. is owned and managed by DMCI-MPIC Water Company Inc. (DMWCI), a joint venture between Metro Pacific Investments Corporation (MPIC) and DMCI Holdings Inc. (DMCIHI). The consortium took control of Maynilad on January 24, 2007.
