Nov. 16, 2010 -- In the Middle East, severe weather such as dust storms and freak floods is consistent with climate-change predictions. Reuters reports that scientists, although hesitant to link specific events to climate change, are urging Middle East governments to be proactive, rather than wait until disaster strikes.

Water scarcity, in particular, is a dire challenge, with reports that the region's water supply has dwindled to a quarter of what it was just 50 years ago.
