• Global water leader ITT signs agreement with China's Chongqing Water Group

WHITE PLAINS, NY, and CHONGQING, China, Feb. 25, 2010 -- ITT Corporation, a global leader in the transport and treatment of water, wastewater and other fluids, and Chongqing Water Group (CWG) today announced the signing of an Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to apply their local and international resources to improve the energy efficiency of Chongqing's wastewater treatment plants. The two companies will conduct research to demonstrate the energy savings of efficient water infrastructure and ultimately promote sustainable development in Chongqing.

The water infrastructure in Chongqing, the largest city in Western China, faces severe challenges, with 43 percent of its treatment plants consistently falling below minimum standards. ITT will collaborate with CWG to construct sustainable water transport networks and ultimately improve the quality and supply of fresh water.

"ITT is committed to applying its innovative and efficient water technologies to build sustainable infrastructure in China," said Mike Kuchenbrod, President of ITT China & India. "We are pleased to partner with the Chongqing Water Group, whose experience in the local water market and knowledge of the city's unique demands will allow us to provide effective water solutions."

Chongqing's growing infrastructure and mountainous terrain complicate monitoring and controlling water and wastewater transportation, and present opportunities to leverage ITT's energy-efficient products and technologies. CWG recently identified that under normal conditions, the wastewater temperature in the system's pipes differs from the surrounding environment. This temperature gap may be leveraged as a source of energy, and ITT can apply its innovative heat-exchange equipment to help CWG collect and recycle this power efficiently.

"We have reached an understanding with ITT as a result of our common efforts to make the water treatment process more environmentally friendly," said Wu Xiufeng, Chairman of CWG and a representative to the National People's Congress. "ITT's leading water treatment technologies will provide our city with customized energy-saving solutions that are compatible with our unique geography and climate."

Minimizing energy consumption and lowering energy costs for customers are priorities for ITT. ITT's PumpSmart® systems can lower energy costs by up to 70 percent through automatically adjusting their speed to coincide with demand. Additionally, ITT's N-pump for wastewater applications uses up to 30 percent less energy than other similar wastewater pumps.

ITT's collaboration with CWG builds upon ITT's vast experience in China. In Beijing, ITT's energy-efficient products were chosen for many of the new facilities built for the 2008 Olympic Games, helping the city showcase its commitment to conservation. ITT's ozone water purification systems have also been applied in many key wastewater treatment plants throughout China, such as the Qinghe and Beixiaohe Wastewater Treatment Plants, which served Beijing's Olympic Stadium and the Olympic Village.
