SCHAUMBURG, IL, Feb. 1, 2010 -- OMRON Foundation Inc. (Schaumburg, IL) and Omron Corporation (Kyoto, Japan; www.omron.com) have donated a total of $75,000 to support victims and aid reconstruction in the areas devastated by the massive earthquake that struck Haiti on January 12. Today the OMRON Foundation Inc. made a donation to the American Red Cross - Haiti Relief and Development Effort in the amount of $20,000 USD.
OMRON Corporation's donation of 5 million yen (approximately $55,000 US dollars) was made through the Japan Platform, a system to provide quick and effective emergency relief in natural disasters and refugee situations (http://www.japanplatform.org). The Japan Platform acts as a clearinghouse for donations from businesses to Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) including CARE, Red Cross, and World Vision.
The Omron Foundation Inc. also encouraged U.S. Omron employees to make individual donations in support of local relief efforts to help Haiti recover. Employee donations are matched by the Omron Foundation within the program guidelines.
