MoU signed for common effluent treatment plant in India
July 20, 2007 -- A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Government of Himachal Pradesh and M/s Doon Infrastructure Ltd, Baddi for setting up of a Common Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP) at Baddi in the presence of Smt. Parminder Mathur, Additional Chief Secretary here today.
Shri Dilsukh, Under Secretary, Industries signed the MoU on behalf of the State Government and Shri Vijay K. Arora, Director, M/s Doon Infrastructure Ltd, Baddi on behalf of the company.
Smt. Parminder Mathur, Additional Chief Secretary said that a Common Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP) is proposed to be set up at Baddi so that industrial effluent discharged by the units is properly treated according to approved norms of the Pollution Control Board and added that the Government will lease out land for setting up of this facility. She said that the SPV will ensure that at least 70% of the employment is offered to bonafide Himachalis.
Smt. Mathur said that the announcement of the Special Package of Incentives for industries in Himachal Pradesh by the Government of India as well as the new Industrial Policy of the State Government, has led to a spurt in industrial activities in the State. She said that Baddi- Barotiwala-Nalagarh region of the State has been in the forefront of this growth in industrial activities. She said that the State Government has also been alive towards its responsibility to minimize the adverse impact of industrial growth on local environment and added that the State Government has forged a partnership with the local stakeholders in the Private Sector to achieve the objective. She said that for the safe disposal of hazardous waste, the State Government has already leased out land to M/s Shivalik Solid Waste Management Ltd. for setting up of a hazardous waste management facility. The work for setting up of this facility has already commenced, she added.
Shri Anil Khachi, Director, Industries said that the concept of CETP was conceived to provide single point outlet for wastewater from industries and added that this concept gained importance with the rapid industrialization for sustainable development of industrial areas.
Senior officers of State Government and M/s Doon Infrastructure Ltd. were present at the event.
