WORCESTER, UK, Aug. 10, 2007 -- OnSite, a member of South Staffordshire Plc, based at Blackpole, Worcester, has taken delivery of a new Kaiser-Whale sewer cleaning Jet-Vac with continous water recycling.

Developed by Whale Tankers in technical partnership with Kaiser AG, the Kaiser-Whale takes a totally new approach to heavy duty jetting machine applications using recycled water. The specialist 26 tonne GVW machine, mounted on a MAN TGA 26.440 6x4 chassis (with a sleeper cab), recycles the water it uses during jetting operations, maximizing time spent on site working and thereby minimizing time spent off it taking on supplies of fresh water.

Whale Tankers were able to demonstrate to OnSite the cost savings as a result of the faster overall job times that could be achieved by investing in a Kaiser-Whale with its recycling technology, in addition to other significant operational, environmental and economic benefits.

The new Kaiser-Whale vehicle is destined to enter operation on preventative sewer maintenance and cleaning contracts throughout the UK. According to Fleet Manager, Ray Ryder at OnSite, the choice of Whale equipment was to a greater extent due to their confidence in Whale products and the service back-up and support they already receive with their existing fleet of Whale tankers.

"The Kaiser-Whale is a highly specialist, flexible machine that makes every drop of water count. With more time spent on site, better fuel efficiency and significant payload advantages over more traditional water recycling technology, the Kaiser-Whale is a highly effective and profitable solution for our specialist sewer maintenance and cleaning applications"

The Kaiser-Whale features the Kaiser KDU 148 High Pressure Water Pump assembly, providing significant benefits over conventional water recycling machines. Instead of adding additional filtration to a more traditional type of unit, the KDU pump operates at a much slower speed (50 times slower than a typical triplex pump), which greatly reduces the wear on the pump as well as making it significantly quieter in operation.

The large pump cylinder capacity delivers high flow and pressure performance -- up to 400 L/min at 2,900 psi in the case of the OnSite machine. As a fully integrated assembly -- incorporating a jetting pump, a pressure accumulator, oil reservoir/cooler and tipping ram housing -- weight is significantly reduced, with attendant payload advantages.

For OnSites's operations, the vehicle has been fitted a "spiral disc" cassette type of boom. In addition to a 300° rotation, it gives the machine the ability to reach depths between 6m and 7m without extension, reducing the amount of manual handling required in operation, as well as the need to carry additional extension pipes on the vehicle.

Located at the rear of the vehicle, the hydraulically operated Whale "Mega Reel" provides a highly effective and manageable means of handling the heavy duty hose and is capable of holding up to 180 m of 1.25" or 200 m of 1" rubber hose.

The Whale Control panel, featuring Programmable Logic Control (PLC) is located at the rear of the vehicle off the main hose reel frame. Having all the controls for jetting, vacuum and water recycling on a single panel, clearly and logically set out, facilitates efficient and safe day to day operation of the machine.

With Whale's Programmable Logic Control, all valves are controlled electro-pneumatically from a single point eliminating the need for manual operation. Safety interlocks, timing and sequential operations are controlled automatically, greatly simplifying the operation of the vehicle. Full training for OnSite operatives has already been completed.
