CARY, NC, July 19, 2007 -- On May 29th I. Kruger Inc. (d.b.a. Kruger) and Toray Membrane USAInc. signed an exclusive distribution agreement for the Flat Sheet MBR Membrane Module in the United States. The agreement provides Kruger with the rights to Toray Flat Sheet Membranes for all domestic (or municipal) applications.
The flat sheet membrane modules manufactured by Toray consist of membrane elements housed in a 304SS Frame. The membrane elements are made of Polyvinylidene Fluoride (PVDF) polymer and are attached to an ABS frame. The membranes are manufactured with a pore size of 0.08 µm, which is in the ultrafiltration range. The tight pore structure created by the Toray membrane manufacturing process ensures the removal of suspended solids, without necessitating the formation of a cake layer across the surface as is the case with other flat sheet membranes.
Kruger utilizes the Toray Flat Sheet Modules in its NEOSEP™ process. The NEOSEP system consists of an activated sludge process with membranes immersed in the sludge. The membranes act as the liquid/solid separation step eliminating the need for secondary clarifiers. The process can be configured with anaerobic, anoxic and aeration tanks depending on the required effluent quality. The NEOSEP system is a Title 22 accepted MBR with quality effluent ready for non-potable re-use.
Toray Membrane USAInc. CEO Randy Truby had the following to say regarding the exclusive agreement: "Toray is very excited to be teamed with Kruger and their NEOSEP™ process. We believe that the Kruger staff has the process and biological knowledge as well as the engineering expertise necessary to put Toray's industry leading PVDF membrane modules to good use in systems that are technically superior and cost effective for the end user."
We are combining years of biological process engineering expertise with a membrane manufactured by the most technologically advanced materials company in the world. By combining phased biological treatment with an extremely strong and efficient membrane, we are bringing a product to the market that is not just another membrane, but a value added system that will meet strict effluent requirements with minimal operator attention.
