CANONSBURG, PA, Aug. 14, 2007 -- Congressman Tim Murphy (PA-18) today presented Aquatech of Canonsburg with the Export Achievement Certificate. The event took place at Aquatech's plant and facilities in Canonsburg, PA.

The Export Achievement Award recognizes U.S. companies that have made their first export sale or entered a new overseas market with assistance from the Department's U.S. Commercial Service.

Aquatech, a business based in Canonsburg, PA, is an equipment manufacturer of industrial water and wastewater treatment systems, and a supplier of water management services. Recently, Aquatech secured a large contract in Italy -- their first to the region.

"In order to reach their maximum potential, both small and medium-sized firms like Aquatech need to export," said Murphy. "Aquatech serves as an example of what can be done by a Canonsburg company with the right assistance. Hopefully, other small businesses in and around Canonsburg will follow in its footsteps."

With export counseling from U.S. Commercial Service in Pittsburgh, Aquatech was able to successfully secure a contract in the Italian market. As a result of this agreement, Aquatech has seen sales in excess of $75 million and was able to add twenty-five new employees.

"Without the cooperation and dedication of all the parties involved, Aquatech may not have been able to participate in this major project with ENEL. However, with the help of the U.S. Commercial Service, Ex-Im Bank, and PNC, we were able to secure this significant contract," said Venkee Sharma, President and CEO of Aquatech.

Sharma says that in the future, Aquatech is eager to enter other markets. "As far as future prospects are concerned, we plan on utilizing the U.S. Commercial Service, as well as PNC and the Ex-Im Bank. Our experience has been a pleasurable one and we look forward to our expansion into Italy," said Sharma.

The U.S. Commercial Service is a U.S. Commerce Department agency that helps small and midsize U.S. businesses sell their products and services globally. The Pittsburgh Office of U.S. Commercial Service is part of the agency's worldwide network, which includes 107 offices throughout the United States and more than 150 offices in 80 countries.
