FORT WASHINGTON, PA, Nov. 16, 2007 -- Severn Trent Services was selected by the cities of Bristol, Tenn., and Bristol, Va., to provide contract operations and maintenance of the cities' 15-MGD activated sludge wastewater treatment plant. The public-private partnership is for a term of five years. The cities chose to take advantage of alternative operating approaches offered by Severn Trent Services that will save nearly 20% annually. Total savings over five years is estimated at $2 million.

The activated sludge wastewater treatment plant produces 2,000 dry tons of biosolids annually that is land applied. The wastewater plant includes a 14.3-dtpd in-vessel composting facility. Because of the minimal amount of biosolids being composted, the Cities concurred with Severn Trent's recommendation to put the facility in standby mode, which is providing significant savings in electrical consumption and maintenance costs. Severn Trent will also operate and maintain 31 pump stations and administer the Cities' industrial pretreatment program.

"Establishing a strong partnership with clients upfront is of the utmost importance. By putting their trust in Severn Trent Services, the Cities of Bristol, Tennessee, and Bristol, Virginia, are counting on our expertise to deliver results. This has been our goal since the first day of this exciting partnership," said Dana Kaas, vice president, Contract Operations.
