CH2M Hill VP receives international water awards

DENVER, CO, Nov. 1, 2007 -- A CH2M Hill Vice President, Dr. Julian Sandino, has been honored by the Water Environment Federation (WEF) and the International Water Association (IWA) for his contributions to and expertise in international water issues.

During the Water Environment Federation's Annual Technical Exhibition and Conference held in San Diego, Calif. in October, Sandino received the Richard S. Engelbrecht International Activities Service Award. This award recognizes sustained and significant contributions to the furtherance and improvement of the activities of WEF in the international field.

In September, Sandino received first prize for his poster presentation "Bio Chemically Enhanced Clarification for the Management of Wet-Weather Flows in Large Wastewater Treatment Plants" at the 10th annual IWA Large Wastewater Treatment Plant conference in Vienna, Austria. This conference is the oldest recurring IWA specialty conference.

Sandino is a vice president, assistant director of technology and a wastewater treatment fellow for CH2M Hill's Global Water Business Group. Throughout his more than 20 year career, Sandino has led multi-disciplinary teams in sanitation infrastructure and environmental projects throughout the world, including process evaluation and design for a wide variety of wastewater treatment facilities. He has been involved in more than 100 projects in several countries and has authored more than 80 technical papers and publications. His expertise has also been shared through his participation as an invited speaker for national and international conferences.

Active in the industry, Sandino has been a two-term member of the Board of Trustees of WEF, is the Chair of its Municipal Wastewater Treatment Plant Design Committee, and a member of its Long Range Planning Committee. He is a member of the article review boards for WEF's Water Environment and Research journal and IWA's Research Journal. In addition, he is a Director at Large of the USA chapter of the Inter-American Association of Sanitary and Environmental Engineering, and a member of Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers.
