Norwegian firm brings next generation flood protection solution to the UK

Sept. 10, 2007 -- AquaFence A/S, the innovative company behind the new 'AquaFence' flood protection solution has opened a new market unit office for the UK & Ireland. Based in Alcester, Warwickshire, AquaFence UK will act as a central point of contact for AquaFence customers to address their local flooding issues.

AquaFence is currently in use in potential flood zones in Europe and the USA and has local offices in Rakkestad, Norway; Stockholm, Sweden; Düsseldorf, Germany; and Lynwood, Washington, USA. The new UK office expands the AquaFence network into the key British market where local authorities, businesses and utilities have recently been hit be instances of severe flooding, causing millions of pounds worth of damage.

"Flooding is a local issue, so it is important for AquaFence to have a presence on UK soil," comments John Stead, Managing Director, UK and Ireland, AquaFence UK. "We are located close to several of the worst flood hit areas in the UK but we are dedicated to demonstrating the fast installation and cost cutting potential of choosing AquaFence to prepare for future floods to the whole of the UK and Ireland."

The AquaFence UK office will be joining forces with AquaFence A/S to provide demonstrations of AquaFence at the Tees Barrage during September, October and November 2007. The Tees Barrage is a famous watercourse that can literally be turned on and off at will making it the most spectacular and practical flood protection demonstration site in the UK.

AquaFence is a unique, impervious to water solution for flood protection. It offers far superior performance in all aspects over traditionally used sandbag walls including strength, cost-effectiveness and deployment time. In tests, it took a team of ten men 72 hours to set up a 100 m sandbag wall. The equivalent sized AquaFence flood protection wall was installed in an hour by a ten man team.

AquaFence also provides struggling flood hit organisations with highly attractive cost benefits for flood fighting. Meter for meter, AquaFence costs are similar to sandbags. However, AquaFence can be used over and over, whereas sandbags are single use. Additionally, sandbags may become contaminated during flooding and are thus classed as hazardous waste and have to be disposed of as such, which can be an expensive and time consuming process.
