Power, desal plants for Pakistan to be addressed

Sept. 21, 2007 -- Sindh Provincial Minister for Labor, Transport, Industry, Commerce and Cooperation, Muhammad Adil Siddiqui has informed business community that a cabinet meeting scheduled to be held soon would give approval for two projects including desalination of seawater and Site (Sindh Industrial Trading Estate) area power generation plant.

Addressing the opening ceremony of 14th Site Eid Bachat Bazaar on Sept. 20, organized by Site Association of Industry (SAI), he said that power generation projects would be implemented by Site Limited and provide power to site industries in collaboration with Karachi Electric Supply Corporation (KESC) on KESC tariff. The minister said that both the projects, seawater desalination plant and power generation would cost around Rs 400 million.

He said water shortage and power problem would be resolved after commissioning of these two projects. He further said that PC one (document for government) of the projects is already prepared and the projects need only cabinet approval.

Welcoming the guests, Chairman, SAI, Imran Shaukat complained that Site industrial area is getting only 5 MGD water per day whereas the requirement is around 32 to 40 MDG per day.
