NORTH SOMERSET, UK, June 8, 2007 -- AUMA has been selected by Southern Water's contractors Black & Veatch Costain JV to supply over 100 actuators to an £80 million environmental improvement program to bring cleaner seas to Margate and Broadstairs in Kent. An upgrade initiative at the Margate Headworks will utilize AUMA technology and an associated site at Weatherlees will also be supplied with AUMA products.
Modular electric actuators, supplied by the UK arm of AUMA, were identified as capable of supporting technical requirements during a transition at Margate to fieldbus technology. The actuators' fieldbus functionality was also pivotal in the selection of the products for the Weatherlees site.
Commenting on the selection of AUMA actuators, a spokesman for Black & Veatch Costain JV said: "AUMA products offer a highly flexible design that means both hard wired technology and new generation fieldbus technology are supported in the one actuator. As we are managing a transition from traditional wiring to a Profibus solution at Margate it was highly advantageous, from both a cost and time saving perspective, to adopt AUMA's dual control system.
"Again it was the adaptability afforded by AUMA's products that led to their selection for the Weatherlees WwTW -- they are the only company to provide a plug and socket connection which means that, if an actuator is taken out of service, the Profibus network will continue to function."
The state-of-the-art Margate and Broadstairs wastewater scheme will treat the 20 million liters of wastewater generated each day by the residents and summer visitors to the region. The Weatherlees works receives flows from the Margate site, provides further treatment and returns it to the Margate outfall facility.
