INVERNESS, Scotland, June 19, 2007 -- Inverness-based United Utilities Contract Services has been announced as a finalist in The Environmental Awareness Award category in the 2007 National Business Awards for Scotland, sponsored by Orange.

UUOS (S) is in the business of recovering, cleaning and discharging to sea commercial and domestic wastewater. It operates as a contractor in the utility sector, being a wholly owned division of United Utilities, the multi-utility company based in the north west of England.

The firm's team will now prepare to make their presentation in person to a further panel of expert judges, including senior executives, academics and business specialists, in mid to late July. Made up of fourteen categories, winners will be unveiled at a glittering gala awards evening at the Glasgow Hilton Hotel on Thursday 13 September 2007.

Competing against FirstGroup, Hilton Glasgow Hotel, Radisson SAS Hotel -- Edinburgh and Tesco, the Award will go to the company that best demonstrates a company-wide commitment to minimizing its impact on the environment. Evidence will be sought of a clearly articulated and widely communicated environmental strategy embedded into the company's business practices, together with examples of policies that improve business performance and innovative approaches to environmental management.

The entrants demonstrate enthusiasm and motivation to succeed and I challenge anyone who doesn't believe Scottish businesses are at the vanguard of innovation and growth to meet with these finalists. All the finalists of the awards have shown passion, determination and originality -- we wish them all luck in the final rounds of judging."

The National Business Awards for Scotland, sponsored by Orange, recognizes and rewards excellence, innovation and success.
