NOVI, MI, Dec. 20, 2007 -- Toxic effects on plants and animals, erosion of creek banks, lowering of water levels: These are the adverse effects of the absence of a stormwater runoff program. And no industry wants any of them.

Then there are the fines. There are fines for each violation, based on the type and amount of illegally discharged or dumped material. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, violations for not implementing a Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) can result in fines totaling from the hundreds to the tens of thousands of dollars per day, per violation -- fines severely hindering your ability to focus on your core business.

Mastery Technologies Inc. announces the release of a new safety course, Storm Warnings: Stormwater Pollution Prevention, CBT. The interactive training -- with video produced by Excal Visual -- is available on the Web, Intranet or CD.

"We are pleased to continue providing Excal Visual's training on our best-in-industry platform," said Kirk Berry, vice president of sales for Mastery Technologies Inc.

Storm Warnings training is appropriate for anyone working in an industry handling chemicals, petroleum products, wastes, herbicides, pesticides or other industrial-type materials. This includes workers that are covered under a General or Multi-Sector General Permit for stormwater discharges, as well as workers at municipal facilities covered under an MS4 Permit.

Stormwater pollution occurs any time industrial-type materials are washed away with stormwater runoff or snow melt. This training prepares employees and contractors to prevent stormwater pollution and know the laws by learning Best Management Practices (BMPs) of working safely around stormwater drains.

Fifty-two learner interactions, focusing primarily on the most common BMPs, actively involve the learner in the training. The course presents interactive instruction covering these topics:
• Stormwater and the law
• Good housekeeping
• Materials management
• Spill response
• Equipment fueling and repair
• Outdoor manufacturing
• Preventive maintenance
• Waste management
• Dust emission

"Stormwater effects us all," said Mike King, president of Excal Visual, "this training gives industry the tools they need to avoid fines and focus their efforts on their main work."

Mastery Technologies Inc., located in Detroit, Dallas, and Boston, has been a leader in workplace health and safety training technology since 1986.
