POWAY, CA, Dec. 17, 2007 -- Toray is proud to announce that the Luggage Point Alliance (a consortium consisting of the Queensland State Government, CH2M Hill (Australia) Ltd, and Laing O'Rourke (Australia) Ltd has chosen Toray's TML20-400 elements for the Luggage Point Advanced Water Treatment Plant (AWTP). The plant is part of the Queensland Government's Western Corridor Recycled Water project, the aim of which is to relieve pressure placed on the current infrastructure by ongoing severe drought. The existing municipal wastewater treatment plant at Luggage Point will serve as feed water for the AWTP, providing a new source of clean water for local industry, power generation, and various other end-users. When completed the facility will produce 66,000 m³/day (17.4 MGD). Construction on the site has commenced and everything is on schedule to meet the stated goal of making water before the end of September 2008.
The TML20 line of products (available in 370, 400, and 430 ft2 versions) are Toray's answer to the wastewater treatment industry's call for low-fouling, high rejection membranes. They have proven to be highly reliable and trouble-free at the Sulaibiya Wastewater Reclamation Plant in Kuwait, which is one of the largest wastewater treatment facilities in the world at 320,000 m³/day. TML20-400s have also been running very well at the TEDA facility in China and at the Seletar treatment plant in Singapore. The addition of the large AWTP facility at Luggage Point -- which will consist of more than 5,000 individual elements -- will only serve to underscore Toray's excellence in the field of reverse osmosis elements for wastewater treatment applications.
