Hydro kicks off WaterAid fundraising program
CLEVEDON, UK, Oct. 15, 2007 -- Hydro International kicked off a year of fundraising for WaterAid with an It's a Knockout event, which raised nearly £4,000 towards its £10,000 target to provide a rainwater harvesting system for a school in Nepal.
Employees, suppliers and business partners of the industry-leading provider of stormwater and wastewater solutions battled it out on a course of fiendish obstacles, made possible with key sponsorship from Micro Drainage, Burdens and Fränkische.
The It's a Knockout Challenge was the first of an annual program of events organized by employees at the company's two UK sites in Clevedon near Bristol and Ely, Cambridgeshire as well as it sister operations in Ireland and the US.
Chris Williams, Managing Director Europe for Hydro International -- who is organizing and taking part in a Lands End to John O'Groats Cycle Challenge* in aid of WaterAid -- says: "This is the first time that Hydro has committed to a company-wide sponsorship. We were very impressed by the work of WaterAid all over the world. But in particular our employees were keen to be involved with a rainwater harvesting project because of the clear synergies it has to our business. "
Fiona Blake, Business Development Manager from WaterAid said: "I am delighted that Hydro International has launched a corporate partnership with WaterAid in support of our vital work and is planning an exciting calendar of fundraising events during 2007/8.
"Hydro's efforts will help funding work in Nepal including a rainwater harvesting project at a school in Bharatpur It will provide 900 children and 15 teachers with access to clean water and sanitation."
