Wisc. wastewater treatment plants named best-operated by EPA

CHICAGO, Oct. 25, 2007 -- U.S. Environmental Protection Agency recently named the village of Trempealeau Wastewater Treatment facility a recipient of the 2007 National Clean Water Act Recognition Award. The award recognizes municipalities and industries for outstanding and creative technological achievements in wastewater treatment and pollution abatement programs.

The facility serves 1,650 people in Trempealeau, Wis., and discharges into the Mississippi River. It is one of nine national winners and EPA Region 5's only honoree in the Operations and Maintenance Excellence category.

The awards, based on water quality compliance screenings and satisfactory environmental quality records, were announced during the recent Water Environment Federation's Technical Exposition and Conference.

Regional honors were also awarded. Wisconsin 2007 Regional Operations and Maintenance Excellence awardees are the cities of Medford and LaCrosse.
