LONDON, May 8, 2007 -- National utility solutions provider Balfour Beatty Utilities (BBU) has reason to celebrate this month after exceeding their 100 km end of year target set by Three Valleys Water (TVW). Since 2004, BBU has worked with TVW on various mains renewal and replacement schemes, as well as mains diversions and reinforcement work throughout Essex, Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Berkshire, Surrey and North London. The team hit the target whilst working with colleagues from MACE and TVW on Northolt Road in Harrow as part of a £15m makeover program to update the area's water pipes, some of which were laid 70 years ago.

"It's been a real challenge to triple our mains renewal program output this year, but one which the whole team has pulled together to achieve," Thomas Enright, TVW Project Director on the Main Renewals Program said.

The team's work was admired by the Mayor and Deputy Mayor Councilor, pictured, when they came to take a look at the multi million pound project during the Three Valleys Water Road show. Residents and shoppers in Harrow also came along to get a close up view of the water mains and found out why the huge scheme to replace 100km of pipes is needed.

"It was fascinating to see what the old pipes actually look like and to learn about the different techniques and technologies in use." Mayor Cllr Janet Cowan said.

More than 12,000 customers have already been connected to new water mains in the Borough and another 7,000 residents will also benefit as work continues to replace the remaining sections of the network during the next 12 months.
