OMAHA, NE, May 1, 2007 -- HDR, a leading architecture-engineering-consulting firm, has acquired Hawaii Pacific Engineers, Inc., a full-service engineering firm based in Honolulu, Hawaii. Also known as HPE, the 20-person firm specializes in civil engineering, water and wastewater treatment and design and site and infrastructure development.

Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed. Going forward, HPE will conduct business as HDR/Hawaii Pacific Engineers.

"We are very pleased that HPE wanted to become part of the HDR network," said HDR Engineering, Inc. President George Little. "Having a local presence is always important, but even more so in Hawaii where relationships and trust are key to doing business. HPE is very well respected in the Hawaii business community and we plan to continue that tradition of respect."

"Infrastructure investment is increasing substantially in Hawaii and in the Pacific Rim. It has been a challenge to capture these projects given our limited size," said Frank Hino, HPE president. "We have long-standing relationships with HDR staff, and our corporate cultures are a good match. Like us, HDR believes in strong client relationships and quality services. With the availability of our joint resources, we're looking forward to what we can accomplish together."

Under the new corporate structure, Hino will be a vice president and department manager responsible for managing HDR's engineering operations in Hawaii. Lester Fukuda and Roy Abe, the other HPE principals, will become vice presidents.

HDR is an employee-owned architectural, engineering and consulting firm with approximately 6,000 professionals in 141 locations worldwide.
