HOUSTON, TX, May 8, 2007 -- Construction work associated with the upgrades to the City of Rosenberg's Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) No. 2, located in southeast Texas has begun. Lockwood, Andrews & Newnam, Inc. (LAN), the design engineer for the project, was selected by the City of Rosenberg to provide the professional engineering services related to the successful expansion and improvement of the facility.

The proposed expansion will increase the plant's current average daily flow capacity from its existing 3.0 million gallons per day (mgd) to 4.5-mgd, and its two-hour peak flow rate from 9.0-mgd to 18.0-mgd. Construction of the approximately $10.5 million project is expected to be completed by April 2009.

LAN initially prepared a preliminary engineering report that described the existing treatment process, identified areas of improvement, evaluated potential alternatives and recommended the most cost-effective solution for the plant expansion. The proposed solution called for the construction of new structures, as well as the modification of existing processes and structures, in order to increase the treatment capacity and improve the efficiency of the plant. Subsequent to the preliminary engineering effort, the firm completed the final engineering design of the proposed expansion plan, as well as the advertising, bidding and construction phase services associated with its construction.

"The Rosenberg plant is a key wastewater treatment plant that serves almost two-thirds of the city's population," said LAN Vice President Joseph A. Boyd, P.E. "The expansion will support the rapid growth anticipated to occur within Rosenberg and its surrounding jurisdiction in the upcoming years."

Other wastewater treatment plant projects recently completed by LAN include:
• Bell County Water Control and Improvement District (WCID) No. 1
• WWTP No. 1 Expansion & Improvements Project
• South WWTP Design & Construction Project
• North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD) – Muddy Creek WWTP Expansion Project
• City of Houston – Almeda Sims Sludge Processing Facility Improvements Project
