MIDDLETOWN, PA, May 23, 2007 -- Recognizing the growing importance of wireless technologies in industrial applications, Phoenix Contact's Regional Business Unit (RBU) is expanding its commitment to providing wireless products and services to its customers throughout North and South America. During the next year and beyond, the RBU will expand its product portfolio for wireless SCADA applications and wireless Ethernet connectivity.

With this new focus in mind, the RBU has named Paul Mercier to the newly created position of business development manager for wireless products. Mercier previously served as the national wireless specialist for Phoenix Contact USA. In his new role, Mercier will focus on the continuing growth of wireless and Foundation Fieldbus technologies.

The company already has thousands of successful wireless measurement and control applications installed, primarily in the United States. The RBU plans to transfer this application knowledge of industrial wireless I/O, wireless data in SCADA segments and secure wireless Ethernet to key market segments in the rest of the Americas, including Canada, Mexico, Brazil and Argentina.
