BOSTON, MA, May 8, 2007 -- Today Stantec announced it is donating $50,000 to Water for People, a US and Canadian charity organization that provides water, sanitation, and hygiene education support to developing countries and has several representatives throughout New England. The donation also recognizes National Drinking Water Week, which is celebrated this week throughout North America.

"The work Water for People does is crucial to global health and truly in line with the work companies like ours do to provide safe public infrastructure," says Richard Allen, leader of Stantec's US East region who works from the Company's Boston office. "Stantec is proud to support the organization and I am personally honored to be a part of the experience."

In 2003, Stantec supervised the construction of a water supply infrastructure project in Malawi, Africa, one of Water for People's targeted countries. Since then, several of the Company's offices have been active in the organization, volunteering for fund-raising events, contributing in-kind services, and providing employees as committee and board members. This $50,000 donation allows Stantec to provide direct support to targeted projects, including continued work in Malawi.

"We are thrilled that we have the opportunity to make a donation of this size," says Tony Franceschini, Stantec President & CEO. "Stantec has been involved with Water for People at varying levels for many years now and this kind of company-wide commitment will truly help the organization's continuing efforts to improve drinking water and health across the globe."

Water for People was established by the American Water Works Association in 1991 to help ease a growing concern over the accessibility of safe drinking water in developing countries. Water for People lends its support primarily to Bolivia, Guatemala, and Honduras in Latin America, and to Malawi in Central Africa.

Stantec provides professional design and consulting services in planning, engineering, architecture, surveying, economics, and project management.
