Veolia Water reinforces its presence in Japan with a new wastewater treatment contract

Veolia Water has won a new contract in Japan for the complete operation and maintenance of a wastewater treatment plant for the growing economic city of Chiba, near Tokyo. PARIS, May 7, 2007 -- Veolia Water has won a new contract in Japan for the complete operation and maintenance of a wastewater treatment plant for the growing economic city of Chiba, near Tokyo. The plant, called Hanamigawa Nº 2, has a capacity of 283,000m3/day and serves a population of around 500,000 inhabitants. This comes only one year after the company won two other management contracts for wastewater treatment plants in Hiroshima and Saitama, near Tokyo.

The contract is worth an estimated consolidated turnover of 17.8 million Euros and was awarded by the prefecture of Chiba through a tender. It is for a period of three years starting from April 2007. Veolia Water Japan formed a consortium with its subsidiaries Showa Kankyo Systems KK (24.5%) and Nishihara Techno Services KK (24.5%), which was chosen for its ability to combine respect of strict environmental regulations with economical performance. Altogether, Veolia Water Japan and its subsidiaries employ 1000 people locally.

The plant is located on a 23 hectare site along the coast, and came into operation in 1994. Treatment includes prolonged aeration, denitrification and rapid filtration, thickening and sludge dehydration, sludge incineration.
