NEWIN rebrands as NorthEast Water Innovation Network.

NEW YORK, NY, MARCH, 16, 2017 -- As one of the world's leading water-innovation clusters, NEWIN has been committed to making an impact on water related challenges in both the New England and global water markets since 2011. NEWIN's commitment to the acceleration of water innovation has expanded enormously with the announcement that it is opening an office in New York City. Furthermore, to better reflect this expansion of influence, the organization has stated that it will be changing the current name from the "New England Water Innovation Network" to the "NorthEast Water Innovation Network".

"Over the past 18 months, the community we support has expanded to include universities, start-ups, and companies in New Jersey and New York. This rebranding is intended to reflect our commitment to driving the success of our water-innovation ecosystem throughout the NorthEast region," said Marcus Oliver Gay, Executive Director, NEWIN.

NEWIN is establishing a New York presence within Grand Central Tech; a 50,000-square foot incubator space supporting a community of startups and strategic partners dedicated to helping entrepreneurs and innovators address New York City's urban challenges in sectors of sustainability. NEWIN's New York presence will drive networking, knowledge sharing, business, and innovation support services to water-tech innovators in the Tri-state area.

"Over the past few years we have grown extensively and now support a water-technology community of 298 companies. More than one third of our members are based outside of Massachusetts, and our expansion to a physical presence in New York enables us to support the needs of our region's growing water-innovation economy more effectively," said Philip Ashcroft, Chairman, NEWIN.

"The formal presence of NEWIN in New York is a great addition to the state's expanding water technology ecosystem. As members of the network, we value the help it provides. NEWIN facilitates connections with innovators and representatives from industry; prospective partners in developing cost-effective solutions to meet pressing regional water challenges," said Jennifer Garvey, Associate Director, Center for Clean Water Technology at Stony Brook University.

The renaming of NEWIN to better represent its wider reach across the Northeast comes on the rapidly expanding reality that society is, and will be, facing extreme water challenges. With its NYC office and new name, NEWIN plans to begin a new chapter in the acceleration of water innovation; supporting local innovators achieve global impact with their water-innovations.
