ATLANTA, Nov. 24, 2004 -- AdEdge Technologies Inc., a provider of specialty adsorbent products and integrated treatment systems for arsenic removal from water and wastewater, was awarded a turnkey project in September to provide arsenic treatment solutions for the Water District of Black Canyon Community, Ariz., drinking water supply wells. The city, located 40 miles north of Phoenix has three main supply wells, and serves a population of about 2,300 people.

According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, more than 4,000 public drinking water systems throughout the United States contain arsenic concentrations exceeding the new federal standard for arsenic, which was lowered from 50 parts per billion (ppb) to 10 ppb. In Arizona alone, the Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) identified more than 300 regulated public water systems that must implement a solution to meet the new arsenic standard by January 2006. The number of affected systems represents a significant percentage of systems in the state, most of which are small systems serving communities less than 3,000 people. ADEQ hosted an Arsenic Technology Fair on Sept. 29 at the Mesa Convention Center to assist public water systems in identifying technologies that will help communities comply with the new arsenic standard. AdEdge exhibited a small arsenic removal system during the exhibit.

AdEdge uses a patented granular ferric oxide technology developed by Bayer and marketed as Bayoxide E33 to reduce arsenic contamination in small municipal, commercial and industrial applications. It has successfully applied the technology in multiple public drinking water systems in the United States, including one of its nationwide EPA full-scale Demonstration Projects in nearby Rimrock, Ariz. This demonstration project that began earlier this year, utilizes an AdEdge Adsorption Package Treatment System, and has been successfully treating arsenic ranging from 40-80 ppb to below 2 ppb. This site is one of three EPA demonstration projects being implemented by AdEdge with the intent of further validating commercial-ready technologies well suited for small systems. It's also the third recent public water system project to be implemented by AdEdge in Arizona, including an installation for an elementary school in New River, Ariz., for the Deer Valley Unified School District.

AdEdge was selected out of 29 companies offering arsenic treatment technologies that were investigated by the Black Canyon City Water District. "We believe the AdEdge adsorption process is the most cost-effective, commercially ready option for Black Canyon City," states Pam Masset, chairman of the Water District. "It was the only technology that fit our budget, was simple and easy to operate.
