ST. LOUIS, Nov. 1, 2004 (PRNewswire-FirstCall) -- Solutia Inc. raised prices for all of its Dequest phosphonates. This increase applies to all orders shipped on or after Nov. 1.

"Although we have implemented successful cost-containment measures throughout our business, this price increase is still necessary to offset the sustained high costs we are facing for key raw materials," said Sharon Dunn, Dequest North America business manager, Solutia Inc.

About Dequest
Dequest brand (www.dequest.com) phosphonates are highly active specialty chemicals, used as chelants, dispersants and crystal growth inhibitors in a multitude of water-related applications. With production on three continents, Solutia is the world's largest producer of phosphonates, and its Newport, Wales, facility houses the world's largest phosphonates production plant.

About Solutia
Solutia (www.solutia.com) makes nylon products, films for laminated safety glass and aftermarket, water-treatment chemicals, heat-transfer fluids and aviation hydraulic fluid. The St. Louis-based company is currently in negotiations to sell its Seattle-based pharmaceutical services unit, Axio Research Corp., as part of financial reorganization following its decision to seek Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in December. In filing for Chapter 11 protection, Solutia cited struggles under heavy financial obligations assigned to it when it was spun off by Monsanto as a separate company in 1997. Like other companies, it has hiked prices for a number of products this year, citing higher raw materials costs.
