ALBUQUERQUE, NM, Sept. 17, 2004 -- MIOX Corp., an Albuquerque, NM, firm selling water purification equipment, is celebrating its 10th anniversary this month.
MIOX sells primarily capital equipment to municipalities for treatment of potable water. The systems replace hazardous chlorine gas, improving safety for both plant operators and residents who live near the treatment facility. Other applications include disinfection of municipal wastewater, commercial pools, cooling towers, and industrial process water. The MIOX technology has also been miniaturized into a handheld water purification device the size of a magic marker, known as the MSR MIOX Purifier. This device is currently in use by U.S. Marines and other military personnel in Iraq and Afghanistan, and is available at sporting goods outlets for campers and hikers to purify their drinking water.
Since its inception a decade ago, the MIOX Corp. has grown from 12 to 35 employees. Annual revenue growth has increased on a regular basis, with a total growth of 250% over the last six years. The company has received New Mexico's Flying Forty award seven years in a row. This award represents the forty fastest-growing technology companies in the state. It also achieved ranking in New Mexico's "Private 100" last year.
Thirty New Mexico communities are currently using the MIOX technology for treatment of their potable water supply. New Mexico residents have invested millions of dollars in the privately held corporation. This investment is returned to the local economy with over 50% of materials and accessories outsourced by MIOX to other N.M. businesses, a level now approaching $2 million per year in local spending.
MIOX (www.miox.com) has won prominence outside of New Mexico as well. In 2001, the company was one of only nine in the country to win the prestigious President's "E" Award for Excellence in Exporting. Ninety-five percent of product sales are exports outside of New Mexico, with over 1,200 capital equipment systems installed worldwide, and over 20,000 MIOX Purifiers in use by consumers and military. The company is pursuing private investment capital to further accelerate growth and to take advantage of new opportunities for water disinfection, desalinization, and decontamination in other markets.
