Electropure granted second U.S. patent for ion exchange membrane
LAGUNA HILLS, Calif., April 16, 2004 -- Electropure Inc. announced that it was granted a second U.S. Patent for its novel and improved ion-exchange membranes.
These membranes form an integral part of its electrodeionization (EDI) water purification technology. EDI is used in industrial water treatment systems to make "ultrapure" water for electronic, pharmaceutical and power generation applications.
Electropure markets its membrane for non-EDI uses under the tradename "Excellion™."
The patent (U.S. 6,716,888) describes an improved ion-exchange membrane made by Electropure's environmentally-friendly, solventless process. The patented process reduces the membrane's exposure to heat, which damages sensitive ion exchange sites.
"This patent further protects Electropure as we pursue global commercialization of EDI," said Michael Snow, COO of Electropure. "Our improved membranes enable us to produce higher quality water purification EDI devices at low cost." Electropure is continuing to expand its portfolio of U.S. and foreign patents in this technology. The company currently exports about two-thirds of its EDI products, and sells to 37 countries around the world.
