Woodard & Curran plant manager James Gagliard receives NEWEA Operator Safety Award

Woodard & Curran Plant Manager James Gagliard received the 2003 Operator Safety Award from the New England Water Environment Association during its annual awards ceremony in January.


ACTON, Mass., Feb. 12, 2004 -- Woodard & Curran Plant Manager James Gagliard received the 2003 Operator Safety Award from the New England Water Environment Association during its annual awards ceremony in January.

The award honors operators who demonstrate an initiative for safety by making improvements to a safety tool or procedure or by implementing a new safety policy or training at their facility.

Gagliard is Plant Manager of the Acton, Mass. Wastewater Treatment Plant, which is contract operated by Woodard & Curran. He has full financial, client, operational, maintenance and compliance responsibilities for the plant.

Gagliard instituted a comprehensive safety program at the Acton plant based on the safety requirements of Woodard & Curran's safety program and manual. He also coordinated safety training with surrounding treatment facilities, and fire departments, and has ensured that the facility has the required signs and safety procedures. Since implementing the program, there have been no injuries or lost time accidents at the Acton plant.

Celebrating its 25th anniversary, Woodard & Curran is an environmental consulting firm integrating services in engineering, science, and operations. Founded as a 10-person office in 1979, the firm has grown to a staff of nearly 450 in seven offices in Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Connecticut, and Florida and nearly 50 contract-operated treatment facilities across the U.S.

The New England Water Environment Association has about 2,000 members and is celebrating its 75th year of commitment and service for a clean water environment.
