Migratable AMR Technology Transforms Bloomington's Water Department

To address inaccuracies and inefficiencies in its metering system, the City of Bloomington, Illinois Water Department has implemented a mobile automatic meter reading system that has streamlined its reading and billing while freeing personnel for more critical tasks such as asset maintenance. Business outcomes have also improved in other areas, including capital planning and recovering lost water through leak detection. The City has boosted its levels of customer service through data logging and water consumption analysis, proactively notifying consumers of possible leaks and excessive usage before these can impact their water bills. Customer service representatives can quickly look up information for inquiring callers, while field personnel can show customers graphs of their consumption at their residence. Bloomington can also now better keep up with its highly-transient collegiate population, and looks forward to being able to migrate to fixed network to reduce or eliminate truck rolls for off-cycle readings.
