he Model FS10A Analyzer Flow Switch/Monitor from Fluid Components International (FCI) is a universal flow switch and monitor specifically designed for continuous verification of flows within gas and liquid process analyzer sampling systems. Fast-responding and highly-repeatable, the FS10A installs easily into a standard tube tee fitting or SP76 (NeSSITM) modular manifold.

FCI's analyzer is a small, lightweight instrument featuring superior low-flow sensitivity, a relay alarm trip point, an analog output, and an RS232 interface. Its advanced electronics and thermal dispersion flow-sensing technology provide an accurate solution for sampling system flow assurance. Further, the FS10A is ideal for nearly all types of process and emissions sampling systems, including gas chromatographs (GCs), mass spectrometers, optical spectrometers, photometers, and many others.

The FS10A has no moving parts to foul, clog or maintain, which ensures continuous reliability and no maintenance costs. There are no cavities, orifices or dead-legs to trap or contaminate samples, ultimately preserving sample integrity and faster system sampling times. Its wetted parts are corrosion-resistant 316L stainless steel with Hastelloy-C22 sensor tips and its advanced electronics are packaged in fully-sealed aluminum housing, making it ideal for rugged plant environments.

Accordingly, the electronics can be integral-mounted with the sensor element, resulting in a uni-body, self-contained unit, or they can be separated from the sensor for remote mounting. The remote configuration is useful when the sensor installation area is subjected to high temperatures or to mount the front panel and display in a more convenient location.

The instrument provides a top-mounted, flow-rate monitoring LED array for at-a-glance visual indication of proper flow rate to the analyzer or sampling system, that an alarm/trip has been reached, and that the unit is powered and operating. The set-point is conveniently user-settable via two push- buttons that are accessible at the top of the unit or via the RS232C I/O port.

The monitor's outputs include a 1A relay that is settable for NO or NC operation and is user-settable for failsafe, hysteresis and/or time delay, as well as a 4-20 mA analog output for trending. Depending on the tube size, the FS10A monitor operates over a wide flow range in air/gas from 0.02 SCFH to 200 SCFH (10 cc/min to 100,000 cc/min), and in water/liquids from 0.01 GPH to 12.00 GPH (0.70 cc/min to 750.00 cc/min). Further, it accommodates wide turndowns with a ratio up to 100:1.

Standard configurations will accommodate tubing that includes 1/8", 1/4", 3/8", and 1/2", as well as the SP76 adapter (ANSI/ISA Standard 76.00.02-2002, Modular Component Interfaces for Surface- Mount Fluid Distribution Components). The SP76 adapter is a key element of the NeSSI platform (New Sampling/Sensor Initiative). The FS10A conforms to NeSSI Generation I and is prepped for Generation II and III compliance, requiring only a single 1.5" x 1.5" SP76 base.

Agency approvals for Fluid Components International's FS10A Analyzer Flow Switch/Monitor include FM, FMc, ATEX, and IECEx for hazardous location installations. The FS10A also meets the requirements for Safety Integrity Level (SIL) 2 compliant service.
