Ultimate fluid control
ITT Industries Engineered Process Solutions Group unites two of its legacy innovations: the Dia-Flo diaphragm valve is now available coupled with the Advantage Actuator. The valve provides simple operation and eliminates hold up volume with bubble tight shut-off through a weir design. An ideal solution for situations where fugitive emissions control is critical, the valve is known for durable performance, with many still in service for over 50 years.

Online liquid analysis
Efficiency reductions and equipment failures due to boiler and steam system corrosion and scaling cost billions of dollars a year. Good water chemistry achieved with online liquid analysis and control offered by Rosemount Analytical products, can reduce this. Properly treated feedwater helps keep heat transfer surfaces free of scale and other deposits - promoting efficient fuel use. Good water chemistry also helps keep facilities up and running, reducing the probability of equipment failure and extending maintenance intervals.

For boiler feed measurement in industrial water settings, both the Burkert Type 8041 Electromagnetic Flow Transmitter and Burkert Type 8045 Insertion Magflowmeter offer a calibrated pulse output, with the signal sent directly to a pump for ratio dosing control during chemical addition. Both units are designed for high temperature/high pressure use, and each incorporates a stainless steel finger and fitting. Both also feature a 4-20 mA current output, plus pulse rate and relay outputs.

Optimizing pretreatment systems (clarifiers, filters, etc.) is the key to maintaining performance of downstream equipment such as RO, demineralizers, and boilers. Chemtrac’s streaming current monitors help optimize the addition of coagulants prior to filtration. The particle counter, Model PC2400D, and particle monitor, Model PM2500, provides a level of on-line, continuous monitoring not achievable with SDI or turbidity measurement. The counter/monitor use laser and LED, light extinction/ fluctuation methods which can detect a few ppb of particulates as small as 1 um.

Flue gas analyzer
E Instruments releases the new GreenLine 4000 portable gas analyzer. This handheld, multifunctional combustion and emission analysis unit weighs only two pounds and is ideal for industrial service and maintenance purposes including boilers, heaters, and other domestic and industrial applications. With true NOx capabilities, it provides the latest technology in flue gas analysis. Capabilities include: up to four gas sensors (O2, CO, NOx, SO2, HxCy), built-in impact printer, flame ionization sensor, flammable gas leak detector, draft and differential pressure meter, gas velocity with pilot tube, and temp and humidity meter.
Ideal for fuel and air flow measurement to boilers, burners, chillers, furnaces, heat treating systems, turbine and co-gen power generators, the new ST75 Series flowmeter from Fluid Components International delivers high accuracy and a low-cost solution for small-line flow measurement. It measures and monitors air or gas flows in nine line size configurations from 0.25-2.0" (6-51mm) with a single instrument and provides three unique outputs: mass flow rate, totalized flow and media temperature.

Chelant test kits
Chelant-based treatments are frequently used in process boiler feedwater to prevent mineral deposition caused by trace hardness leakage and to counteract other impurities. Chelants are also employed in some chemical cleaning programs. Taylor offers two drop tests for monitoring chelant levels. K-1544 measures total chelant (uncomplexed and complexed EDTA) and features an equivalence of 1 drop = 2 or 5 ppm EDTA. K-1554 reads uncomplexed EDTA and features an equivalence of 1 drop = 2 ppm EDTA.

Waters Equipment Company’s Series 3100 Single Point Sample Conditioning Modules (SCM) provide a versatile tool for lowering the temperature and pressure of single samples in power plants and boiler rooms. They may be used to obtain grab samples of boiler water or steam and can include a range of instruments for online analysis. The units are pre-engineered and customized to the user’s requirements from a large menu of selectable features. They arrive preassembled and only cooling water, sample and drain field connections are required prior to startup.

Digital test gauges
Accurate information is critical for good decision-making. Dresser Instruments responds with instruments that exceed accuracy standards by introducing Ashcroft® digital test gauges with “Total Error Band” accuracy - a standard that includes the effects of linearity, repeatability, temperature and hysteresis. These use the terminal point method to express linearity, which requires the linearity line to coincide with zero and full-scale data points yielding better product specifications than the “Best Fit Straight Line” method.
Water treatment polymers
Good-Rite® K-700 polymers are used in a variety of industrial applications. As deposit control agents, they’re used by water treatment service companies as formulation components for water treatment (e.g., cooling, boiler) programs. The polymers are multi-functional anionic polyelectrolytes that disperse particulates (e.g., silt, clay, iron oxide, pigments), and inhibit scale formation (calcium carbonate, calcium sulfate, calcium oxalate, barium sulfate, calcium phosphate, calcium phosphonate) over a broad pH range, and sequester di- and trivalent cations (calcium, magnesium, iron, copper, chromium, zinc).
