Neptune Benson selected to provide submicron filtration for fertilizer manufacturer in Pakistan

COVENTRY, RI DEC. 17, 2015 -- The Fauji Fertilizer Bin Qasim (FFBL) plant, located in Karachi, Pakistan, is currently in the process of transitioning its power from natural gas to a coal-based power plant through its subsidiary company FFBL Power Company Limited (FPCL). Natural gas supply throughout the country is limited, and accordingly Fauji Fertilizer Bin Qasim has decided to shift its power generation to coal instead of natural gas in the form of a new company “FPCL”. FPCL will meet the power and steam requirement of its parent organization FFBL along with providing power to the national grid which is in dire need of electricity. This transition will result in a reduction in FFBL’s energy and steam consumption. The reduced dependency on natural gas will also result in better operational flexibility for the fertilizer complex.
Neptune Benson’s Vortisand H2F enters the equation in the cooling towers, where water must be cooled after it has passed through the condenser and heat recovery steps within the process of power generation. In order to keep this system clean at all times and save energy, Fauji Fertilizer Bin Qasim chose Neptune Benson’s Vortisand H2F in its largest single skid configuration with stacked vessels and a flow rate of 2400GPM. The Vortisand filters are used to filter out all air-borne solid contaminants entering into the circuit through the cooling towers, while maintaining a significantly reduced overall footprint and backwash consumption.
The project team at FPCL said - “FFBL already has an existing installation of Vortisand filters and has been a satisfied customer for the last 15-16 years. Their unmatched particle removal efficiency, combined with the technical support during the evaluation, made them an obvious choice for the new project.”
“This project marks an exciting new step for Neptune Benson MENA within the industrial segment,” said Nikhil Bhatia, Director of Business Development - Neptune Benson MENA located in Dubai (UAE). “The response to the Vortisand H2F product range has been very positive and we anticipate strong growth within this segment.”
