BUFFALO GROVE, IL, March 24, 2010 -- Dow Microbial Control, a business group of The Dow Chemical Company, today acquired an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) registration for tetrakis (hydroxymethyl) phosphonium sulfate (THPS). The registration strengthens Dow's No. 1 position in the specialty biocides marketplace.

"Dow Microbial Control was built by bringing together leading solutions," said Mark Henning, general manager, Dow Microbial Control. "This registration is one in a series of smart investments made over the past decade that allow us to add value and best fulfill the needs of our customers around the world."

THPS reduces the growth of algae, molds and yeast in process water used in gas and oil, as well as industrial water treatment applications. This gives service companies an important tool for increasing asset integrity and production.

Dow's EPA registration for will boost the number of the company's THPS products as well as the domestic availability of the solution. The new offering will be sold in the U.S. under the AQUCAR™ brand name beginning in March 2010.

"We aim to deliver a wide array of technology with unmatched expertise to our customers, and this acquisition enhances to our ability to do that," Henning said. "The addition of USEPA Registration of THPS to Dow Microbial Control increases our already robust offering of sustainable solutions."

Other Dow Microbial Control products for the gas and oil and industrial water treatment industries include bronopol, dibromo nitrilopropionamide (DBNPA), glutaraldehyde and isothiazolone.
