Contest seeks entries for best utility communications programs

Utility Communicators International (UCI) is inviting the creators of the brightest and best communication programs to reach for the sky by entering the 82nd Better Communicators Competition.


BUFFALO, N.Y., Feb. 16, 2004 -- Utility Communicators International (UCI) is inviting the creators of the industry's the brightest and best communication programs to reach for the sky by entering the 82nd Better Communicators Competition.

All gas, electric, and water utilities are eligible to compete. Holding companies, pipeline companies, and wholesale gas and electric entities are also eligible. Advertising agencies may submit work on behalf of their clients. Completed entries are due April 2, 2004.

Awards will be presented, for star performances, in 20 categories including print, broadcast, outdoor, Internet, collateral, public relations, annual report, sponsorship and internal communications. Two new categories were added this year in billboards and ethnic marketing. The annual awards show will take place on June 10th, 2004 in Orlando, FL. The Better Communicators Competition is the Nation's longest running creative contest of its kind.

Winners from last year's "Stars Fell Over San Diego" event include Mississippi Power Company (Communicator of the Year), American Electric Power, Duquesne Light, Pacific Gas & Electric and Dominion.

UCI, a trade organization comprised of marketing personnel from the utility industry has over 300 members in the U.S., Canada, The Caribbean, The United Kingdom and Mexico. UCI provides its members with opportunities to broaden their range of knowledge of the fast changing world of utilities and communications
