SEATTLE, WA, Dec. 15, 2009 -- WI Environmental LLC, an environmental solution company, has announced it has completed successful testing on acid mine drainage (AMD) and has passed all U.S. EPA tests including the TCLP test for leachability. Its trademarked product XR-88, removes and stabilizes heavy metals from acid mine drainage, including lead, nickel, cadmium, zinc, chromium, hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI)) compounds and arsenic to name a few. This is a breakthrough for the mining industry and those that work in it.
Unlike most other remediation technologies, the XR-88 stabilization bond grows stronger year after year. In most applications with acid mine drainage only a very dilute 0.1% to 0.2% solution of XR-88 is needed to control metals making it very affordable to use. The biggest advantage to XR-88 is that it does not kill or harm aquatic life thus making it an ideal solution for Alaska and the entire Northwest and it's people and natural resources.
There are over 500,000 mines in the U.S., many with acid mine drainage problems. The XR-88 treatment system is very cost effective and can be portable; allowing a single system to serve many mines where agricultural water is badly needed or the possibility of heavy metals contaminating ground water or rivers is a threat. Recently in the news, ongoing environmental liabilities for mining companies are costing them billions to clean up their sites. Additionally WI's products would be of extreme help to the Puget Sound Clean-Up effort.
Once the wastewater or acid mine drainage is treated it can be reused, used for many agricultural processes or returned to rivers, lakes and streams with no harm to the environment.
