Mt. Gambier's Blue Lake will be the focus of an international study to ensure future drinking water for towns and cities dependent on groundwater. In addition, the study will include Doncaster in England, Rastatt in Germany, and Ljubljana in Slovenia.

In Australia, the Assessing and Improving the Sustainability of Urban Water Resources and Systems (AISUWRS) project is expected to benefit towns and cities, such as Perth, Newcastle and Wagga Wagga.

The Australian government and CSIRO (www.csiro.au) are funding the US$ 1.4-million study.
