CA district wastewater collection system earns CWEA high honors
The California Water Environment Association - San Diego section named Vallecitos Water District in San Marcos, Calif., the 2013 Collection System of the Year.
SAN MARCOS, CA, Feb. 19, 2014 -- The California Water Environment Association - San Diego section recently named Vallecitos Water District in San Marcos, Calif., the 2013 Collection System of the Year (small collection system category) for employing industry-leading procedures and techniques to increase system reliability and make the District an environmental protection leader.
Along with circulating approximately 1.2 billion gallons of wastewater in its system through the year, Vallecitos staff also performed proactive maintenance. This included cleaning a day's journey of 220 miles of sewer mains, inspecting an approximate marathon run of 24.9 miles of sewer pipe, and smoke testing or forcing smoke through eight miles of sewer line to detect illegal hookups that can lead to excess water and sewer overflows.
The Collection System of the Year honor offers recognition to the District for an optimum performing system that not only benefits Vallecitos customers with service reliability but also the entire community with fewer wastewater spills released into the environment.
