LAN to design new lift station for city of Friendswood, Texas
The city of Friendswood, Texas, recently announced that it has selected Lockwood, Andrews & Newnam to replace its existing Lift Station No. 18.
HOUSTON, TEXAS, March 5, 2015 -- The city of Friendswood, Texas, recently announced that it has selected Lockwood, Andrews & Newnam, Inc. (LAN), a planning, engineering and program management firm, to replace its existing Lift Station No. 18.
LAN will design a new lift station with a pumping capacity of 500 gallons per minute, as well as a backup generator and truck turnaround for maintenance. Additionally, a wetland delineation ad environmental site assessment will be performed due to the site's proximity to a bayou.
Lift Station No. 18, one of Friendswood's major lift stations, has reached the end of its useful life and is below the 100-year floodplain. The city made interim repairs to the station, including replacing pumps and a wet well to sustain operations; however, a complete renovation is necessary for better operator access and continued sewer service.
Friendswood, in partnership with LAN, will design and construct the new lift station at the existing site to avoid acquiring property since this process is often time consuming. In addition to saving time, this option is also expected provide some savings for the city.
"With the new lift station, the city will have a reliable pump station with capacity to serve the residential community for the foreseeable future," said Chau Bao, P.E., LAN's engineer. "Furthermore, the risk of sewage overflows leading to environmental pollution is minimized with the new lift station."
Construction of the lift station is expected to be completed in December 2015.
