Kee Safety Ltd. covers all angles for Europe’s largest wastewater treatment plant of its type in Athens with tube fittings for secure, lightweight and corrosion-resistant hand-railing for water industry applications.

Europe’s biggest sewerage treatment plant in Athens Bay, Greece is the perfect showcase for the versatility of UK safety company Kee Safety Ltd. and its market leading range of fittings.

Located on an offshore island in Athens Bay, the Psyttalia Wastewater Treatment Plant is significantly improving water quality in the Saronic Gulf, and helping with revitalisation of flora and fauna in the region. A major part of the plant’s construction involved a series of aeration tanks, orthogonal, primary sedimentation tanks and sludge post-thickening storage tanks. Ensuring optimum safety and a secure handhold for treatment works employees tasked with maintaining and monitoring these tanks is over 22,000 metres of guardrailing connected together by Kee Safety’s Kee Klamp‣ fittings.

The company worked closely with its main Athens distributor, GIOXAS S.A., in the supply of numerous types of fittings for this impressive installation. A key challenges faced on the project is the many changes in angle required around the perimeter of the various tanks. With one of the most comprehensive ranges of fittings on the market, Kee Safety and GIOXAS were able to comfortably accommodate the resulting changes in guard-railing direction required by the specification.

This versatility also helped ensure that all the railing could be cost-effectively assembled in double-quick time and with a minimum of installation difficulty. Each fitting incorporates an integral set screw to lock the respective fitting safely and securely onto the tube. Not only does this method create a strong, stable and safe railing structure, but it also eliminates the need for time-consuming welding or specialist skills that on large-scale projects, like the Psyttalia WWTP, can prove important.
