Calif. Water Commission seeks comments for proposed Water Storage Investment Program

Written comments must be received by 5 p.m. on March 14.

California, Jan. 29, 2016 -- The California Water Commission today opened the 45-day comment period for its proposed Water Storage Investment Program (WSIP) regulations for the quantification and management of the public benefit of water storage projects. Written comments must be received by 5 p.m. on March 14.

The proposed regulations provide a framework for the application process and requirements applicants must follow to measure the public benefits of the proposed water storage projects as required by Proposition 1. The proposed regulations also include ecosystem and water quality priorities that may be considered by the CWC when evaluating proposed projects under the WSIP.

The WSIP is being used to allocate $2.7 billion funds in Proposition 1 funds dedicated to helping fund water storage projects under Chapter 8. Under Proposition 1, the CWC must have the regulations finalized by December 2016.

A public hearing to receive public comment on the proposed regulation will be held March 16 at 9:30 a.m. in Sacramento. The agenda will be posted at 10 days prior to the meeting.

The CWC’s Notice of Proposed Rulemaking and supporting documents are available on the CWC website.
