Duke Energy to pay for new water lines or filtration systems for homes near coal ash storage pits
Duke Energy will pay for new water lines or filtration systems for 1,000 households.
NORTH CAROLINA, SEPTEMBER 1, 2016 -- Duke Energy will pay for new water lines or filtration systems for 1,000 households near coal ash storage pits, according to the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality.
Owners of drinking wells within a half-mile of facilities that store coal ash in the state were alerted this week that a new law would require Duke Energy to pay for a new water line or filtration system for each home. Duke must submit plans for the new water supplies this year and complete the work no later than late 2018.
