Company Orders New Wastewater Treatment System

Technologies from USFilter's Jet Tech Products will allow Tyler Mountain Water of Paducah, KY, to treat water with high biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) wastes from plant processes.

Because the plant's existing wastewater treatment system will be unable to meet the demands of planned future expansion, Tyler Mountain Water awarded USFilter a $1.1 million contract to design and construct a system that will meet current and future needs.

With headquarters in Poca, WV, Tyler Mountain Water manufactures bottled water products in Poca and Louisville, KY; and fruit flavored and juice-based products in Paducah, KY.

"The challenge for USFilter was to design and construct a system in a short period of time while allowing the plant to continue operation during construction," said Steve Bryant, Industrial Sales Manager at USFilter's Jet Tech Products. "We developed a plan that will reuse the three existing lagoons, with the addition of a field-erected clarifier by USFilter's Davco Products. This will allow us to stage construction activities to provide for continuous wastewater treatment throughout construction. By working with the USFilter food and beverage market team, we were able to incorporate technologies from within USFilter to provide an integrated technology solution."

The system is based on USFilter's OmniCell™ Anaerobic Lagoon Process, which includes USFilter's Vari-Cant® Jet Mixing system to ensure proper mixing within the anaerobic lagoon.

Besides the OmniCell, jet mixing system and field-erected clarifier equipment, the company is supplying a chemical feed system from its Stranco Products division and Aqua-Lator® mixers/aerators from its Aerator Products group. Onyx Industrial Services, a Vivendi Environnement company, is providing cleanout of the existing lagoons. The engineering and construction partner on the project is O'Brien & Gere of Atlanta, GA.
